Very atmospheric descriptive book about a Jamaican plantation and the problems between the white overseers and the black workers
Got this book because we were going to Jamaica and we were planning on visiting Rosehall. I actually couldn't put it down once I started and it was fun to visit the location where this book place.
Good read. Very quick. Easy to get into the plot. Definitely recommend if you will be visiting Rosehall.
Interesting as I had just recently toured Rosehall in Jamaica and I was curious to learn more of the history of the estate. The ghost stories surrounding the place weren't what I was interested in during the tour and this book went into a narrative that I found more
believable in many ways.
Just came off of a cruise and had visited the Rosehall, so I was really excited to run across this book. As I read it I could picture the area and relate to the book. Enjoyed the book.
While visiting Montego Bay, I bought this e-book because the story of Rose Hall intrigued me. I thought it would be more factual but it seemed more fiction brackets set after Palmers husbands are dead but I'm not 100% on how factual it is. It was entertaining but a little difficult to read given the era and very proper English. It's a quick read and I enjoyed the imagery especially after visiting the island. A little gory but set in slave-Times so likely very real. I've recommended this book to others already!! Thanks!!
I have been to Jamaica but knew little about the plantations on the island before the slaves were freed. Very brutal, upsetting. Hard to believe that supposedly civilized human beings could treat one another in the manner of that was common in the West Indies and many other places. It's hard to read about these events but people should learn about history and learn about these evil behaviors and learn not to allow such evil to continue. I know this is a novel but it is based on actual events.
