Amazing! I got wrapped up in this book from page one and couldn't put it down. I would have finished it in one sitting, but my kindle died at 84% and I was SO mad!!
The characters and plot are unique and intriguing, unlike anything I've read before. Much like Lexus, I fell in love with Griffin and Phoenix, unable to decide which one I like better. All 3 characters get their own point of view and their voices are strong and well developed, never leading to any confusion with the multiple POV's.
I can't wait to start the next book. Honestly, it's been a while since I've read something that's drawn me in this tightly and refused to let me go. I care about the characters... I need to know what happens next. On to book two!
I recommend this book to lovers of clean romance and the paranormal who are looking for something original and unique. Awesome book!

Caught up from the first page. Will read the series. Well written, fun, and fresh. It's a book where most of the action is in the growth of the characters; the fact I didn't notice that until I finished says a lot about the writers talent. Well done, highly recommend for adults and YA readers.
This author and this series are new to me. I am really enjoying this first in the series. I like the twins and Lexus, and I like the plot. There were some things that I struggled with. I felt that the foster parents' reactions to Phoenix's muff up didn't ring true, and Lexus's sudden relocation was, well, sudden and too easy. Otherwise, the story kept me interested, and I got the rest of the books in the series that are out.
Its a good start to a YA paranormal romance series. We don't get to know much in this first installment though. The story development is very slow so we only get a glimpse of what is going on with Lexus and her boys at the end of the book. That's ok i can live with that cliffhanger, its a series so will have to keep reading to find out what happens. The biggest struggle i have though is the love triangle. I hate love triangle! Maybe that's why the competition or jaleousy between the twins to win the attention of Lexus got on my nerves. That does'nt mean i wont give a shot for the second book of this series cause i want to know what happens next but the love triangle thing... argh...not.a.fan. If you also like your books in audiobooks try it the narration is good.
Flightless Bird is a story about a neglected teen who finds love, magic, and hope with not one but two new boys in town. The story is interesting, though the protagonist comes off a bit week and whiny, particularity in the audio version which I listened to. I could not help wonder why she was so helpless that she could not help herself.

This series is aimed at a teenage YA audience, and this particular book feels appropriate for that audience, though I'm not certain how many parents would approve of the reverse harem nature of the series. My understanding, based on a conversation I had with a relative who finished the series, is that later books are a bit more risqué, so please bear that in mind. I'd recommend young adult readers.
I really enjoyed this book by Ms. McAllen. I am most definitely NOT a young adult, but I enjoy reading this genre, & I am really impressed with this author's chops! The characters were really well-written, & the plot moved very quickly. I was dismayed to realize that the book was over. I read it all in one sitting, because the plot moved so well & characters were so REAL. I am looking forward to the next book in this series, & highly recommend it.
Written at an easy reading level, this book captured my imagination and gripped my heart. However, the cliffhanger in the end of book one seemed a little too much. It seemed like the author reached the climax of the story and then said,continued in book two. It didn't satisfy my curiosity the way you would expect. I think there should be more resolution in the first book and then introduce some new suspense.

The plot is that this girl and a couple of boys find themselves drawn to each other, and try to understand why. A new plot is introduced near the end about the girls mom's boyfriend. This new plot is resolved, but the original one isn't.
I downloaded Flightless Bird as a free ebook from . I struggled with this one--possibly because the protagonist, Lexus, was only 15 and a subject of teen bullying. I'm not a fan of teen-angst stories. There was also not anything outstanding about Lexus that I thought would attract two brothers, Phoenix and Griffin- she was shy and reclusive and uninteresting. It's not until the ending that the story sparked an interest in me--but, not enough I'll read on. I simply prefer older characters, especially if there is a romance angle. Teens will probably enjoy the story a lot more than I did
